Also, on both Ekadashi dates of this month, after worshiping Lord Vamana, food and water are donated.

Incarnation as Vamana

In Satyug, Asura Bali defeated the gods and took over the heaven. After this, all the gods went to Lord Vishnu to ask for help, then Vishnuji took the form of Vaman from the womb of Devmata Aditi. After this, one day when King Bali was performing a yagya, Vamandev went to Bali and asked for three steps of land in donation. Despite Shukracharya’s refusal, King Bali promised to donate three steps of land to Vamandev.

After this, Vamandev assumed a huge form and measured the earth in one step and heaven in the second step. When there was no space left for placing the third foot, Bali asked Vaman to place his foot on his head. As soon as Vamandev placed his foot on Bali’s head, he reached the netherworld. Pleased with Bali’s generosity, God made him the lord of the netherworld and returned all the gods to their heaven.
